LAMPlatoon Featured Video: The iPhone Meets the Monolith

This week, we’re showcasing a LAMPlatoon mashup of a recent iPhone commercial with one of the greatest movies of all time:

The point is pretty straightforward. This ad uses action movie music and dramatic lighting to make it seem like the phone is an amazing, epic, life-changing device. It elevates the iPhone to a level of mystery and intrigue similar to that of the monolith in 2001: A Space Odyssey, whose meaning has been the subject of debate more or less since the movie came out in 1968. Of course, there is the added advantage that the phone–a wide, black shiny slab–greatly resembles the monolith. But don’t be fooled by the attempt to make the iPhone look like science fiction. It’s still just a phone.
