Brush up your news literacy skills with The LAMP!
With the Republican National Convention underway and the Democratic National Convention coming up, what has been a barrage of election news is about to become an avalanche. And with summer coming to an end, now is the perfect time to wake up your brain and refresh your news smarts with The LAMP’s Check Out the News! LAMPlit resource guide. Written by The LAMP’s Education Director Dr. Katherine Fry, it’s a quick and easy how-to for understanding why news is made, who makes decisions about what news gets reported, and how you can take control of your own opinions and decisions in a world of pundits and editorials.
We’re also proud to let you know that Check Out the News! is now also available in Spanish and Chinese translations, making it a great tool for teachers to use in multi-lingual classrooms. And don’t forget to check out the rest of our LAMPlit library–more translations are coming soon!
Incidentally, if you haven’t bought tickets to The LAMP’s fifth birthday party yet, what are you waiting for? All tickets include open bar, food, live music, stand-up comedy and the warm fuzzies that come with supporting New York’s only nonprofit media literacy organization bringing programs right to the doorsteps of youth, parents and educators citywide:
