Turn up the MOOC-Box: Infographic

Massive open online courses, or MOOCs, have been booming in recent years as more and more people realize the potential of the Internet to deliver higher education to millions of people worldwide at a fraction of what it costs to attend college. Perhaps the biggest player in the field right now is EdX, a nonprofit organization which launched this year as a project of Harvard University and MIT. The ‘xConsortium‘ of universities on the EdX platform include global institutions like the University of Hong Kong, IIT Bombay, Australian National University and many more. Courses cover philosophy, economics, biology, chemistry, architecture, neuroscience…the list goes on.

While it’s too soon to gauge the true impact of MOOCs on education and opportunity, there can be little doubt that we are in the midst of a major shift in the ways that digital media and technology are being viewed as resources for expanding education and learning opportunities. How is this change happening? Take a look at this infographic from QuinStreet:

What if MOOCs were less like TED talks and more like MMORPGs?
